Alexandria Valley Scottish Rite ROTC/JROTC Awards Program
In support of our Scottish Rite twin objectives of supporting public education and Americanism, Alexandria Valley Scottish Rite members participate in annual awards programs recognizing outstanding Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) and Junior ROTC cadets with the award of a DoD-authorized Scottish Rite medal and service ribbon to be worn on the cadet uniform, a nice certificate of award, and a booklet of American heritage documents.
We support the ROTC program at James Madison University and JROTC programs at twenty-six high schools and military academies with geographic coverage from Harrisonburg to the west, Arlington Career Center to the north, and King George to the south. Approximately 20 of our Valley members volunteer each year to attend the schools’ ceremonies and to make the award presentation.
In support of our goal to encourage Americanism, the booklet, Dynamic Freedoms, Our Freedom Documents, published by the Supreme Council for the Southern Jurisdiction of the United States of America, is included in our awards package for each cadet. This booklet contains the foundational documents of our republic, The Magna Carta, Mayflower Compact, The Call to Arms, The Declaration of Independence, The Constitution of the United States, Excerpts from Federalist Number 10, Excerpts from Washington’s Farewell Address, The Gettysburg Address, and The American Creed.
